Coming to exercise later in life, after a 40 year career in Nursing, Joanne learned to Nordic Walk and was so impressed by its benefits for people of all fitness levels she decided to become an instructor in fitness walking (YMCA Level 2). She is amazed at the huge benefits not only for herself but for anyone of any fitness level or age.
Diagnosed with arthritis in 2017 Joanne understands that it can be difficult at times to exercise but also appreciates the huge benefits gained from it.
Tony, an IT Programme Manager, learned to Nordic Walk to improve his abilities with ultra-marathon running. He trained to be an Instructor with British Nordic Walking and obtained his YMCA level 2 in Fitness Walking. Tony also received specialist mountain running training & coaching using Nordic Poles with Mountain Run in lake district.
An accomplished mountaineer including being a climber on the First Irish Expedition to Everest in 1993, Tony has always had a passion for the outdoors, and has extensive knowledge of the mountains.
An accident in 2000 (he was hit by an avalanche!) left Tony with extensive injuries to his leg for which he underwent numerous surgeries but against the odds took up ultra marathon running!
